Why is an FAA psychological evaluation required?

When a medical or psychological concern arises that may affect an air traffic controller's ability to perform safely, the FAA may require a psychological evaluation. This assessment provides an objective, standardized look at cognitive and psychological functioning relevant to safety-sensitive duties.

What does an FAA ATCS psychological evaluation involve?

An FAA ATCS evaluation is a comprehensive psychological assessment ordered by the FAA. It typically includes a clinical interview covering medical, psychological, educational, and personal history; standardized psychological testing; and a detailed written report prepared according to FAA guidelines. The report is submitted as part of the aeromedical review process.
